About
Our Start
The Mounds View Mountain Bike Team started in 2012 with nine kids and three coaches. After initially being a part of the Roseville Composite Team, Mounds View became its own team in 2019, representing teams from the Mounds View School District who will or eventually will attend Mounds View or Irondale High Schools and Totino Grace. We are governed by the Minnesota Cycling Association and race in their races. In 2023, Mounds View Bike Team had over 85 riders and 30 coaches.
Mission, Core Values and Goals
Our mission is to build strong minds, strong bodies, and strong character within a team community who share a passion for mountain biking.
Our core values are safety, sustainability, inclusivity, equality, resiliency, confidence, and work ethic.
Our goals are to create a life-long love for cycling and fitness, support individual student athletes’ goals, ensure team members support each other, and foster an environment of community and friendship.
Mountain Bike Season
Our season runs July - October. We typically practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with occasional Sunday afternoon rides. Races are on Saturdays and Sundays beginning at the end of August through mid October.
Regular Season
Starting in early July, we begin with a Regular Season, in which all riders participate. Regular season focuses on team building, general bike skills, relationships, enjoyment of cycling, and is fluid from the standpoint of student and coach groups..Regular season has three groups: Adventure, Sport and Comp.
Race Season
Race season is similar to Regular Season but be formatted to prepare for the competitive aspects and events of the League. It still embodies the values and goals of the regular season but is structured more like a traditional high school sport in the context of competitive events with other students/schools.
Race season continues with the group model, however kids will be placed into smaller ride group pods which students are based on ability and goals. They are assigned a ride leader and assistant coaches who will work with them for the duration of the season..Students will have a structured curriculum developed by the head coaches and implemented individually by the pod leader.
Riders may participate in Regular Season or Regular Season and Race Season.
